A man lost his life during the chase of a vessel carrying undocumented immigrants by a coast guard high speed boat. The killing took place this morning near the island of Kos.
According to preliminary information, the vessel had earlier debarked seven immigrants on the beach of Psalidi, Kos. It was spotted by the military watchtower of the island, who notified port police officials. During the chase of the vessel one man was shot dead.

Pressrelease: 6th day of the refugee hungerstrike at Oranienplatz (14th April 2014)

Today is the 6th day, that we, four refugee activists from Oranienplatz, are on hungerstrike.

We started this hungerstrike to show our solidarity with our comrades who were resisting against the eviction of our protest camp at Oranienplatz on a tree and were denied food by the authorities. Oranienplatz is well known to be a major symbol and center for the political fight against the racist and colonialist asylum policy in Germany and Europe. We started our hungerstrike with three demands: 1) the re-establishment of the info-point and a big tent for our assemblies at Oranienplatz. 2) the acknowledgement of the school in Ohlauerstr. as a self-organized political center of refugees 3) residency permission for all refugee activists who have participated in our protest at Oranienplatz Over the last days we have been facing heavy rain and cold. Also police are putting repression against our legitimate protest by not allowing sleeping bags, plastic covers against the rain and new things can only be brought, when something is taken away. We highly condemn this practice of denying us the human right to gather and protest peacefully which we should be guaranteed according to article 21 of the human rights declaration. Heute ist der sechste Tag, dass wir, vier Refugee-Aktivisten, im Hungerstreik sind. Wir haben diesen Hungerstreik angefangen um uns mit unseren Mitstreiter_innen zu solidarisieren, die gegen die Raeumung unseres Protestcamps am Oranienplatz auf einem Baum Widerstand geleistet haben und denen von Seiten des Bezirks Nahrungmittel verwehrt wurden. Oranienplatz ist bekannt als ein wichtiges Symbol und Zentrum fuer unseren politischen Kampf gegen die rassistische und kolonialistische Asylpolitik Deutschlands und Europas. Wir haben unseren Hungerstreik mit drei Forderungen begonnen: 1) Die erneute Etablierung des Infopunktes und eines grossen Zelts fuer unsere Treffen am Oranienplatz 2) Die Anerkennung der Schule in der Ohlauerstrasse als einem selbst-organisierten politischen Zentrum von Refugee 3) Aufenthalsterlaubnis fuer alle Refugee-Aktivisten, die sich an unserem Protest am Oranienplatz beteiligt haben Ueber die letzten Tage waren wir schweren Regen und Kaelte ausgesetzt. Auch die Polizei setzt unserem legitimen Protest Repressionen entgegen und erlaubt keine Schlafsaecke, Planen als Schutz vor dem Regen, und neue Dinge duerfen nur gebracht werden, wenn andere weggebracht werden. Estamos aquí porque es nuestra función social contar lo que está pasando en esta frontera sur de Europa, dar a conocer y mostrar a la ciudadanía cómo seres humanos que en muchos años llevan años sufriendo vulneraciones de sus derechos en su viaje migratorio hacia la Unión Europea, tienen que trepar una valla metálica de varios metros de altura sufriendo heridas por sus cuchillas en un esfuerzo sobrehumano vergonzoso ante nuestros ojos.

Hasta ayer, la Guardia Civil nos ponía obstáculos para realizar nuestro trabajo y tomar imágenes de los hechos, estableciendo un perímetro de “seguridad” al que nos estaba prohibido el paso. On April 7, 2014 a trial took place at the Hamburg district court because of supposed trespassing.

„End to the ignorance – Recognition of the group Lampedusa in Hamburg – for a life in dignity“ was written on banner with which some people entered last june the townhall.

The trial began after changing in a bigger room with a declaration of the accused. By a projector a video was presented from the new youtube channel „witnesses of war“: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKtSN-z2dgo. In this video two speakers of the group „Lampedusa in Hamburg“ talk real regarding their situation and who is responsible. Listening to this video is a precondition for the following statement argued the accused against the attempt of state persecutor and judge to prohibit the showing. On April 28 the case will prusued.

Vluchtelingen betrekken weer panden uit pure noodzaak

Vluchtmarkt is een feit – Vandaag, zondag 13 april, heeft WE ARE HERE drie panden betrokken aan de Ten Katestraat in Amsterdam.

Na de ontruiming van het Vluchtkantoor eind vorig jaar heeft een gedeelte van de zwervende groep vluchtelingen opvang gekregen in de Havenstraat, terwijl de rest door de gemeente op straat werd gezet. Deze groep zwerfde kort door de stad, waarna de Vluchtgarage in Zuid-Oost betrokken werd. Aangezien deze ruimte nu overvol is, heeft een gedeelte van de Vluchtgaragebewoners vandaag hun intrek genomen aan de Vluchtmarkt aan de Tenkatestraat in Amsterdam-West.

De vluchtelingen verklaren: “In september 2012 zijn we begonnen met een tentenkamp aan de Notweg, om aandacht te vragen voor onze situatie. We zijn hier, we kunnen niet terug naar ons land van herkomst, we kunnen ook niet naar een ander land, en hier mogen we niet blijven. We vragen niet meer dan een ‘normaal leven’. We willen dat het beleid in Nederland en in Amsterdam ons en alle andere vluchtelingen die op straat staan of onterecht in de cel zitten ruimte laat voor een menswaardig bestaan. Kolat sichert den Aktivist_innen darin zu, dass sie Infopunkt und Zirkuszelt nach ihren Vorstellungen aufbauen können. Napuli befindet sich im Krankenwagen und wird gerade (22:40) weggefahren, ein Freund ist dabei..

8:30 pm: Police tries to evict Napuli from the tree at Oranienplatz!

The police doctor said her body is to much cooled down. First aid bus is there to rescue her. Solidary parliamentary and doctor is also there. Napuli says if some one tries to take her down the tree, she will just jump. She wants a garanty signed by the major that a nice infopoint and the circus tent will be build up again! Hundrets of friends and soildary people try to come to Oranienplatz, the ones who are there are kept in really far distance. Police is everywhere around Oranienplatz!

Till now – 10:10 pm – Napuli resists the eviction.

Die Polizei setzt trotzdem zur Räumung an. Flutlicht wurde aufgestellt und weitere Matten unter dem Baum verteilt. Es ist völlig klar, dass Napuli sich das nicht gefallen lassen wird. Falls ihr etwas passiert, weil die Polizei in Amtshilfe für Herrmann versucht ihren Willen zu brechen, ist das der Versuch sie für immer mundtot zu mache

Geen vrouwen op straat! Supporters luiden de noodklok

Supporters van de uitgeprocedeerde vluchtelingen in Amsterdam luiden de noodklok. Vluchtelingenvrouwen die uit Asiel Zoekers Centra (AZC’s) worden gezet, staan op straat. In de gekraakte “Vluchtgarage” in Amsterdam Z.O., waar een groep vluchtelingen verblijft, melden zich iedere week vrouwen die nergens heen kunnen. Alle opvang in het land, georganiseerd door kerken en vrijwilligers, zit helemaal vol. Op dit moment is er geen onderdak voor de vrouwelijke uitgeprocedeerde vluchtelingen in Amsterdam. Vrijwilligers doen hun uiterste best om de vrouwen elders onder te brengen, maar ”De volgende vrouw die zich meldt, weten we echt niet meer waar ze heen moet” (aldus Marjan Sax, een van de supporters).

Een oplossing is de opvanglocatie in de Havenstraat in Amsterdam, waar een deel van de uitgeprocedeerde asielzoekers tijdelijk verblijft. Daar is voldoende ruimte om de vrouwen die op straat staan, onder te brengen.

De gemeente Amsterdam weigert echter de lege kamers in de Havenstraat, tijdelijk onderkomen tot 1 juni voor een beperkte groep uitgeprocedeerde vluchtelingen, beschikbaar te stellen aan kwetsbaren die zich melden voor hulp. In de opvanglokatie aan de Havenstraat waar ongeveer 130 vluchtelingen verblijven, zijn nog 84 kamers ongebruikt.
